What do we test for?

What kind of DNA does Ombre collect and analyze from submitted stool samples- bacteria, human or both?

Bacterial rRNA. The sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene is widely utilized to identify, classify, and quantify microbes.

How many species are you testing for?

We identify bacterial species by analyzing the V3–V4 regions of the 16S rRNA gene, testing for over 10,000 bacterial species. However, only statistically significant species are included in your profile report.

Can Ombre's Gut Health Test help with my condition?

While we cannot guarantee clinical benefits, research suggests that certain probiotic strains and foods that support beneficial bacteria may help with digestion, immunity, weight management, mental health, and related conditions.

How long does it take to get my results?

Once your sample arrives at the lab, processing typically takes 2–3 weeks. •    Tracking Progress. To check your sample’s status, log in and go to the “My Kits” section. If the status does not show as “Processing” or “Analyzing,” please allow up to o

What type of sequencing do you conduct?

We use Illumina MiSeq machines to perform 16S rRNA microbial sequencing of the V4 region, generating approximately 10–15 million reads per run. Our microbiome test analyzes 16S rRNA to evaluate the abundance and distribution of bacteria in your stool

Does Ombre look for viruses in the sample?

Ombre’s testing focuses on bacterial analysis only and does not include virus sequencing.

Do you check for Candida, parasites, or protozoa?

Currently, we do not sequence yeast, fungi, or candida. Ombre uses a reliable method called 16S sequencing, which primarily detects bacteria and archaea, the main components of the microbiota. However, this technique does not identify yeasts, parasit

Do you check for SIBO?

Our gut wellness test does not diagnose Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO); the standard diagnostic tool for SIBO is a breath test. However, the Ombre test can detect bacteria and archaea associated with SIBO, such as Methanobrevibacter smi

Do you test for acid reflux or bile imbalances?

Our gut wellness test does not assess acid levels, so it does not provide information on risk factors for acid reflux within the microbiome analysis. Furthermore, bile levels are neither measured nor reported.

Do you test for C. Diff / Clostridium difficile?

Yes, if Clostridium difficile is present in the sample you provide, it will be detected in the analysis.

Do you test for Oxalobacter?

Yes, the Ombre Gut Wellness Test includes testing for Oxalobacter. If this bacterium is present in the sample provided, it will appear on the report. You can locate it by searching within the Bacteria Levels section.

Do you test for H. pylori?

We do conduct tests for H. Pylori. If found in the sample, it will be listed as "Helicobacter pylori" under Bacteria Levels.

Do you test for Leaky Gut or IBS?

The Ombre Gut Wellness Test does not diagnose leaky gut or IBS, but it will identify microbiome imbalances linked to these conditions. The analysis helps identify inflammatory, pathogenic, and pathobiont bacteria associated with IBS and increased int

What if a bacteria is missing, such as Akkermansia?

If a particular bacterium we sequence for, such as Akkermansia, does not appear in the report, it is because it is below detectable limits (BDL). This means the bacterium may not be present in the sample, or its levels are so low that they cannot be

Does the Ombre gut test diagnose specific conditions?

The Ombre Gut Wellness Test is not designed to diagnose diseases or medical conditions, nor does it predict future disease risks. Ombre is not a replacement for professional medical diagnosis or treatment and should not be used as such. Always consul

Why should I retest?

Retesting can be a helpful way to track your progress and evaluate how interventions like probiotics are improving your gut health. Here’s why retesting is beneficial: 1. Monitor Improvements:After introducing probiotics or making dietary changes, ret
