Bacteria - BifidobacteriumUpdated a year ago

Bifidobacterium are some of the first microbes to colonize the human gut when we’re first born. As time goes on other bacteria begin to take center stage but Bifidobacterium continues to play an important role. Bifidobacterium produces polyamines which help with cell growth and regeneration. Bifidobacterium also produces GABA which is an inhibitory neurotransmitter that has been shown to help improve sleep quality. Bifidobacterium feeds off of complex sugars in foods such as garlic, onion, and artichoke. Be careful though since Bifidobacterium levels have been shown to decrease in the presence of sucralose which is found in splenda. Healthy Bifidobacterium levels have been associated with decreased SIBO and IBS symptoms, as well as a decrease in cardiovascular disease, improved digestion, increased immune function and improved skin health.
